May, flowers, Lilac, celebration in nature and joy! The last month of Spring comes to Vamvakou in Laconia and climbs the slopes of Mount Parnon with themed workshops and traditions on the occasion of the Easter celebration in the village.
Hiking, robotics, stargazing, massage, dj sets, cooking and programs that bring the whole family together complete a full spring program of activities proposed by Vamvakou Revival as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative implemented with an exclusive donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation ( SNF).
Easter in Vamvakou
Easter in the village, says the wise people! Vamvakou is the ideal place to spend the days of overcrowding and celebrating Easter. We have prepared a program of events for the whole family from Holy Thursday to Easter Tuesday. The month starts (02/05) with the craziest Easter games at the Vamvakos school, creative constructions, ping-pong, but also Virtual Reality. Just before the Resurrection (04/05) young and old make creative use of their time and paint mugs with Easter designs or participate in a fun organized hike to the cave monastery of Agia Kyriaki, while on Easter Sunday (05/05) we set up an Easter Feast in the village square, with food, ovelia, cookies, red eggs from the Voureiko restaurant-cafe and of course traditional music from the “Dorian rhythm” orchestra. The biggest spring celebration closes on Easter Monday and Tuesday with two unique experiential workshops where children will come into contact with the “autonomous” society of a chicken coop (06/05) and become little explorers and discover the artistic side of nature through the multisensory game (07/05), while at the same time adults can relax enjoying a focus body massage (07/05).
Mayan weekends for everyone in nature
Let’s go hiking … Let’s go Loggous (11/05) because … the Phase is Mountains, like our partners of the same name, one of the groups participating in the program of the Vamvakou Incubator, who have started their activity in the village and will accompany us in an enjoyable walk for all levels of walkers. They say that the mountain and nature whets the appetite, so we invite you to the cotton “Cooking Festival” (18/05), a cooking class after tasting in the sunny courtyard of the village school. On the last Saturday night of May, the astrophysicist Anastasia – Fiori Metallenou, who also participates with her team in the incubation program in Vamvakou, will be our “guide” in an evening of stargazing (25/05) studying, learning and recognizing key constellations of spring sky. This month, every Saturday, the rhythm is set by a different and uplifting dj set (11, 18 & 25/05), while we enjoy the peace and relaxation of the countryside with a massage in focused parts of the body (11/05 & 25/05 ).
STEAM, clay play & free play for kids
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics meet at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF) with the most exciting labs impressing visitors. A robotics workshop (12/05) will introduce children to the basic principles of engineering and programming, while the construction of water rockets (25/05) that will be launched in the school yard will take them on a journey to the most important human missions in space. Freedom, contact with nature, the earth and sensory play cannot be missing from our program. This month (19/05) we explore our feelings and capture them in clay art works that we will exhibit in our own “Museum of Feelings” through a clay play Stories. The established School…Alios (26/05) where young and old spend their Sundays happily closes the month and brings the summer a breath closer!

A few words about Vamvakou and Vamvakou Revival
Vamvakou Revival was founded in 2018, with the aim of the complete revitalization of the village of Vamvakous Lakonia, by a group of young people with origins and strong ties to the village, with the moral and financial support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). In recent years, the two organizations have shared the common vision of Revival of Vamvakos, with supplies of the history, human capital and natural wealth of the region. The vision is to create a model village, based on the sustainable development of the place, with the primary goal of returning permanent residents. The main vehicle is the creation of employment opportunities and the provision of modern living conditions, so that in a few years Vamvakou will once again be bustling with life with families, children – and the first school bell will ring again. The main pillars of the initiative are tourism, innovation, culture, agri-food and entrepreneurship. The intention is for Vamvakou to chart the path of revival, aspiring to act as a model, so that many more villages in Greece and internationally will follow suit.
