It is known that charging of electric cars is seen as one of its biggest obstacles electric drive.

However, there was threefold increase in the number of public chargers in the EU over the past three years, according to new analysis by the European Federation for Transport and Environment.

Most EU countries have already met the targets set for 2024 and have public charging infrastructure in place in 2023, according to the analysis of national charging networks and the projected growth of the electric vehicle fleet.

According to the EU Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), each country has annual targets based on the ratio of total charging power and the number of electric cars that are on the streets.

Excellent performance in this part has Bulgaria, which has not only reached this year’s goal, but also those set for the next two years. Slovakia and the Czech Republic are in a very good position, and in addition to this year’s goal, they have also reached next year’s goal.

Among the countries that have not yet met their 2024 targets are Portugal, Hungary and Lithuania which will likely catch up by the end of the year.

THE Hellas and the Ireland they have the most work to do to achieve their goals, since they will have to install public chargers very soon and in a short period of time. Luxembourg, the Cyprus and Malta are also lagging behind on the targets, but can easily meet them with a small number of chargers due to the small size of their electric cars.
