Mendoni for Nisyros: The antiquities guard was suspended from his duties since the first complaint

The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni was placed on the case of the complaints against the antiquities guard in Nisyros during debates in the Parliament.

At a time when the complaints about the abuse of children between the ages of 10 and 15 against the antiquities guard in Nisyros amount to 11, the minister emphasizes that when the first complaint came to the ministry on April 18, the antiquities guard was suspended and she immediately ordered an EDE.

However, the minister emphasizes that today she read various publications, which talked about complaints that existed even before the first one, which opened the case, and that no one took them into account. Regarding these publications, he warned that “those who write them will be found in criminal and civil courts by me”clarifying her position.

“On the issue of Nisyrou, I think we all agree that it is not possible for there to be a Greek citizen who does not unequivocally condemn these immoral and heinous acts, since things are as they are reported. This was also the reason, after all, that when the complaint came to the Ministry, on April 18, 2024, that is, the day before yesterday, the specific antiquities guard was suspended from his duties and I immediately ordered an EDE from the responsible general director”, said Lina Mendoni initially.

“The complaint of April 18 was the first complaint that came to the Ministry of Culture. Because today I read various things: That there were complaints, that no one took them into account and so on. Those who write them will be found in criminal and civil courts by me. And I make this clear. I, too, am interested in Nisyros not being left unattended in the summer and the archaeological museum being closed. That is why the necessary orders and facilities have already been given to the competent rector of antiquities, in order to find the guardian or guardians who will be able to operate the museum of Nisyros, because it should not remain closed, because of the behavior of this man, who , in any case, it is reprehensible”, he concluded.
