A goat was found hidden in a baby carriage
Thirteen people were arrested near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem with lambs and goats, which they intended to sacrifice during Passover, police said in a statement.
In one case, police said, a goat was found hidden in a baby carriage and another suspect tried to smuggle another goat into the scene in a reusable grocery bag.
All suspects, aged between 13 and 21, were handed over for further questioning, the announcement added, and the animals were seized and transported for necessary veterinary care.
“The Israel Police act in Jerusalem and in all areas, together with other security agencies, overtly and covertly, against any person who tries to disrupt order and act contrary to the law and the existing practices of Jerusalem’s holy places” , police say.
In recent years, fringe religious groups have increasingly tried to realize the Passover sacrifice on the Temple Mountbut to no avail, as most Israeli security officials believe it will be seen as a major change in the status quo of the religious site and spark anger across the region.
