The Financial Times article, according to which Greece is under intense pressure from the EU and NATO allies to provide additional defense aid to Ukraine, was commented by Greek Government Spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, during today’s briefing for political editors.

Mr. Marinakis underlined that the Greek Government is not going to make “any move that endangers the country’s deterrent force and air defense”.

“So far we have practically demonstrated our support for Ukraine, for the Ukrainian people”, he said, recalling the Greek Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine.

“From then on, however, there will not be any move that will endanger the deterrent capability or the air defense of our country even in the slightest”, he stressed, while denying that there are any pressures being exerted on the Greek Prime Minister in this direction.

He also recalled today’s meeting held at the Ministry of National Defense between delegations of Greece and Turkey on Confidence Building Measures, informing that the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias held a formal meeting with the heads and members of the delegations.

With reference to the reactions caused by the candidacy of Freddy Beleris on the New Democracy’s European ballot, Mr. Marinakis spoke of a “targeting of Beleris”, which, according to him, is wrong, while he emphasized that it is not a bilateral issue with Albania, but on a rule of law issue.

“We want to symbolize the need to respect human rights, the rule of law,” concluded the Government Spokesperson regarding this particular choice.
