Tribute to Labor Day in Psilalonia

The Employment Center of Patras together with the EFKA Pensioners Association (IKA) of Achaia Prefecture and the OAEE Pensioners Association of Patras paying tribute to the workers’ May Day, organizes a big tribute concert on April 26 at 8:00 p.m. in Psilalonia with Maria Farandouri and Fotini Velesiotou.

The first of May is a landmark day for the struggles of the working class. From May Day in Chicago in 1886 to Athens in 1894 and from May 1936 in Thessaloniki to May Day 1944 in Kaisariani, it has been identified in all of our minds with the struggle and claim for better working and living conditions, for the abolition of the exploitation of man by man!

And indeed all these struggles of the organized working class, the blood shed by so many workers did not go to waste! Their sacrifice brought fruits and conquests that today, decades later, are being circumvented with the criterion of preserving the competitiveness and productivity of business groups. Conquests that should be taken for granted for today are being dismantled by EU directives, the anti-labor laws passed by successive governments. We work 13-hour unpaid, uninsured, without protection measures in the workplace, with starvation wages, flexible working relationships, without collective agreements. We are faced with ever-intensifying state and employer exploitation, terrorism and their repression. We workers tend to become modern slaves in the 21st century!

But the labor movement is not intimidated, it does not retreat, it does not bow its head! All together we fight for our modern needs, we show our enormous strength, we learn from the past, we show the way to the future against this barbarism.

THE FIRST MATCH IS NOT A HOLIDAY, IT’S A STRIKE!

And so competitively he will be honored by all the trade unions of our country, despite the efforts of the government of N.D. to abolish the May Day strike, based on a SYRIZA law and turn it into a public holiday!
