An ELAS operation has been underway since the morning to bring in and arrest people allegedly related to the death of the policeman Giorgos Lyggeridis who died after being seriously injured by a naval flare outside that threw hooligans off the field Melina Merkouri in Rentis.
According to information from police sources, more than 50 spontaneous arrests of people have been made in the context of preliminary investigation, with the police simultaneously conducting a search in various places and houses to identify further evidence.
According to the same sources, the executives of EL.AS. they are looking for a total of about 60 people, while the file that has been filed includes about 150 people.
The investigation by the Authorities concerns both the case of the death of the young policeman outside the stadium in Rentis and other incidents of fan incidents.

“A large-scale operation by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in the sports grounds of the Attica Security Directorate has been in full progress since the early hours of this morning to arrest people involved in the incident of the fatal injury of a police officer on 7-12-2023 at a sports event in Renti. So far, dozens of people have been brought in as well as a large number of searches in homes and vehicles, while various items of evidence have been seized.”

According to information, the charges that those arrested are going to face relate to a criminal organization.
Giorgos Lyggeridis passed away on December 27, after a tough battle that he fought for 20 days, following his serious injury.
The 31-year-old had received a naval flare in the incidents that took place in Rentis’ closed, during the “eternal” derby, Olympiacos – Panathinaikos, for the League Cup.
