A little before 10 in the morning o Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias arrived at Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, where the start of the exercisewhile in the same place the Meetings of the Regional Operational Coordinating Body of Civil Protection (PESOPP) during the progress of the exercise.

Mr. Kikilia was welcomed by the Coordinator of North, South Aegean and Crete Mr George Tsikalas, president of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas, the Regional Governor of Crete Stavros Arnautakis and the Mayor of Heraklion, Alexis Kalokairinos.

According to the exercise scenario, after 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, there was strong earthquake of magnitude 6.4 R centered in the underwater area, 20km NE of the city of Chania, affecting the P.E. Chania and Rethymno.

The start of the Exercise took place with send a message from 112 to the general population in Chania and Rethymnon.

On Tuesday morning, approximately 24 hours after the first strong seismic event, n7.2 R earthquake with an epicenter of 30 km in the underwater area north of the Heraklion gate, which is strongly felt throughout Crete and in the wider region, particularly affecting the P.E. Heraklion and Lasithi, while at the same time marine geodynamic waves (Tsunamis) are caused which attack the northern coasts of Crete.

They will be sent on Tuesday 23/4/2024 2 messages from 112, which will be sent in the morning throughout Crete. All messages will begin with the distinctive wording “EXERCISE – EXERCISE – EXERCISE” to make it immediately clear that it is an exercise and to avoid any misinterpretation and confusion.
