How much further decline will the Apollo Municipal Theater of Patras experience?

It is a question that is asked by every thoughtful father passing through Georgiou Square. The portico area in front of the entrance of the Apollo Municipal Theater of Patras has now been turned into a urinal.

That is, it was “upgraded”. Where you used to see beer bottles, water bottles, chips, discarded cigarettes, now you see with them also discarded clothes, mattresses and other elements that testify to the presence of people sleeping and hanging out there.

After all, several photos have been uploaded in the past with Roma and homeless stagehands sitting in front of the entrance of the theater and eating, drinking and having actually proceeded to occupy the space.

Because nobody goes through there anymore. And we agree: the project for the maintenance and upgrading of the theater is about to begin and the image of this neoclassical jewel of Patras will change and improve.

But until this is done, is it necessary to let this monument of Patras, the most important ornament of the neoclassical architecture that adorns the city, reach this decline?

Unless, for ideological reasons, we do not like either neoclassicism or the cultural identity that Patras has. But this is her identity. What to do. It doesn’t change now. If we love the city, let’s take care of it…
