In Diakou square, the reception ceremony of the Olympic flame took place, which stopped in Lamia, on its journey from Ancient Olympia to Paris.
With the lighting of the altar in Athanasiou Diakos square, from Olympianiki Niki BakoyannisLamia welcomed the “Paris 2024” Olympic Flame with honors and all solemnity.
The universal Olympic ideal, which remains unquenchable to this day, “illuminated” the Photian capital, in the great journey that has begun until it ends up in the city of light, Paris, for the holding of the Olympic games.
In the ceremony, the Olympic Flame, which arrived at the eastern entrance of the city, was first carried by torchbearers of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, which included two Lamiatians, specifically the two-time gold medalist in the Military Olympiads (CISM) and 3rd in the World Games for the Disabled in Archery and Acting Brigadier General Romeo Roumeliotis and the Journalist and former athlete of the Lamia Renaissance Fani Papathanasiou.
Then the Olympic Flame was handed over to the torchbearers of the Municipality of Lamia, the Anthi Mylonaki, 2nd Olympian in water polo in Athens 2004 and Niki Bakoyannis2nd Olympic medalist in Atlanta 1996 where she also lit the altar.
Our Olympian Niki Bakoyannis she was the one who lit the altar in front of the statue of the hero of the Greek Revolution Athanasios Diakos.

The departure of the Olympic Flame was made by Lamprou FridayChampion of Greece in special Olympics Hellas rhythmic gymnastics and the Apostoli Antonopoulos8th Olympic medalist in the 4X200 freestyle swimming in Athens 2004.
At the end of the event there was an exchange of souvenir gifts between the Mayor of Lamia Panourgias Papaioannou and the representative of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games “Paris 2024” Maxim Reynaud as well as with the President of the Hellenic Olympic Torch Relay Athanasios Vassiliadis.
