On the occasion of Yannis Kallianou’s outburst about his father, Giorgos Liagas made revelations for the first time about the death of his own beloved father.
More specifically, in response to Arias Kalyva’s question about how many times he has heard in all the years of his career that nothing works in this country, Giorgos Liagas said: “I will say something for the first time, you are challenging me. My father was a purgatory, just like Kallianos’ father. He underwent two years of dialysis.
One Sunday afternoon – I wasn’t divorced yet – he came home with the kids and we played and it was great. By the time she left the house, she told me she was dizzy. He returned to his home in Colonos, and his brother takes me, telling me that ‘dad is not well’. I called an ambulance and ran to the People’s Hospital. They had him in a room, I took his hand and he told me that it hurt a lot here (in the heart area). I understood that he had suffered a heart attack because due to hemodialysis – two days had passed and he had eaten and drank a little more – he had hyperkalemia. When potassium increases, the person has a chance of having a heart attack.”
Afterwards, Giorgos Liagas revealed: “I shouted for 2 hours to the doctors ‘guys, he’s had a heart attack, we have to put him in a cardiology unit’.” Don’t say what was going on that day in the hospital. People were passing by with blood, the bad destruction was happening. I did not say that I am Liagas and I will disown you if you do not take him to the cardiology clinic.
After two hours, when they take my father on the stretcher and I was holding his hand, he has a seizure. My father died the first time and I was holding his hand. It is an image that will never leave my mind. From that time and for 3-4 hours, all the hospital staff were over my father. That day my father died 3-4 times and came back. The third or fourth time, because I didn’t know what kind of problem this would have created in his brain, I went into the intensive care unit while I was forbidden and whispered something in his ear.”
“Since then it has never come back. The doctors tried, I told them ‘let him go’. And left. The easiest thing would be to come out and say that I am Liagas, that I have power and they are late. That if they had taken him a quarter of an hour earlier to the cardiology clinic unit or to the intensive care unit… (…) And the hours they took, they might have saved 3-4 other human lives. It’s the first time I’ve said it, it’s personal. I don’t blame the man who does it and obviously medical errors have been made. Sorry for telling you something personal” added Giorgos Liagas.
George Liagas’ father, Yiannis Liagas, passed away eight years ago, in 2016.
