THE Kate Middleton and prince william “set up” their followers and shared a photo of Prince Louis on the occasion of his sixth birthday at noon on the day the little prince celebrated. With this move, the royal couple broke with protocol, as it is customary to provide a photo for Prince Louis as well as his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte from the night before.
Prince Louis turned 6 on April 23, and his parents released a new portrait of their youngest son on his birthday. It is understood the delay is related to a desire for privacy after the Princess of Wales shocked by announcing on March 22 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer.
“We hope you will understand that as a family we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatmentKate said, adding that she and Prince William took time to “explain everything” to their three children. “in a way that’s right for them and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay.”
Kate was the photographer for the portrait of 6-year-old Louis, which PEOPLE reports was taken in Windsor over the past few days. According to PEOPLE, the royal couple decided to release the photo to honor the people who wished the prince on his birthday.
Just as Kate has a habit of making her own birthday cakes, the Welsh royal couple have had a tradition of releasing a new birthday portrait of their children every year since Prince George was a baby.
The birthday portrait of Prince Louis was the first official image released by the family following the backlash caused by an edited photo of Kate with her three children released for Mother’s Day in the UK last month.
