One record after another is broken by the new album of American pop star Taylor Swift released a few days ago entitled “The Tortured Poets Department”
Taylor Swift’s much talked about new album broke a new record with over one billion streams on Spotify by April 22. “Tortured Poets Department” is the first album to reach this milestone in just 1 week.
The American singer has already become the first artist on Spotify to have 300 million streams in a single day. In a post on Platform X, Spotify says: “On April 22, 2024, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ became the most streamed album on Spotify in a week. The album has surpassed one billion streams since its release».
The singer has previously broken records on Spotify, becoming the first female artist on the service to reach 100 million listeners in a single month in August 2023. Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ reached number 1 on both sides of the Atlantic and was the most streamed album in the UK for 2023.
‘Midnights’ also broke records for the most-streamed album in a single day in the platform’s history when it was released in October 2022. ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, the pop star’s 11th album features collaborations with Florence And The Machine and Post Malone and her song titles and lyrics they seem to refer to her former partners
Swift told her fans on social media that the album is a reflection of “facts, opinions and feelings from a fleeting and fateful moment in time”, calling them “shocking and sad in equal measure.”
