The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharaki stated that “before Easter it will be paid to accounts of mothers the birth allowance».

“It is an aid to the first expenses. The godparents and godmothers they know how important the expenses are parents“, he emphasized.

To the question of whether there is planning to increase the amount, Sofia Zaharaki said: “At the moment there is no planning.” As Mrs. Zaharaki noted, the child benefit will be given (half) with a prepaid card and half normally.

“Disability benefit is not included in this reform and housing benefit is not included. However, these will take effect from September,” he noted.

As Mrs. Zacharaki pointed out, all his allowances OPECA will be credited to the accounts of the beneficiaries on the last working day of the month. She spoke about the benefits of the government, stressing that mothers who will be out of work will have an aid.

According to her, “the message the government gives is that it supports the family”.

To determine the amount of the birth allowance, the number of dependent children in the family is now taken into account, as it is formed after the birth of the child, and the amount is paid as follows:

a) 2,400 euros for the first dependent child in order of birth,

b) 2,700 euros for the second dependent child in order of birth,

c) 3,000 euros for the third dependent child in order of birth and

d) 3,500 euros for the fourth and each subsequent, in order of birth, dependent child.

After the approval of the relevant application, the birth allowance is now paid as follows:

a) two equal installments of 1,200 euros each for the first dependent child in order of birth,

b) two equal installments of 1,350 euros each for the second dependent child in order of birth,

c) two equal installments of 1,500 euros each for the third dependent child in order of birth and

d) two equal installments of 1,750 euros each for the fourth and each subsequent, in order of birth, dependent child.

Retrospective increase in the Birth Benefit

The retrospective increase in the birth allowance, until the entry into force of this law, is paid to the persons who became beneficiaries of the birth allowance from 1.1.2023 onwards, i.e. to those persons whose children were born from 1.1.2023 onwards and their application it has been approved.

The additional amount resulting from the increase in the birth allowance is paid to the beneficiaries without them submitting a new application or taking any other action as follows:

a) to the beneficiaries, who have received the full amount of the birth allowance, the additional amount is paid in one lump sum in the month of April 2024,

b) to the beneficiaries, whose application has been approved, without, however, having completed the payment of both installments of the allowance, the additional amount is paid with the payment of the second installment.
