Traffic fees by month: The Deputy Minister of Finance announced when they start

The amounts for traffic fees by month, what applies to the removal of forced immobility.

A month later than 2023, will it? this year the platform on mycar for the payment of circulation fees per month. As announced by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Haris Theocharis, the relevant regulation will be voted on in the coming days.

Speaking to ERT, Mr. Theocharis said that from the 1st of May the process of paying traffic fees by the month will be activated, for those who have digitally filed their vehicle registration plates. According to the Deputy Minister, the heavy fines for those caught driving their car while they have declared that they are stationary will remain in force.

Examples – How monthly road charges are calculated

A suspension period of less than a month (e.g. 20 days) is counted as a whole month and an amount equal to 1/12 of the annual traffic fees is paid for it.

For lifting of immobility from 20 May to 31 August, the period is calculated as 4 months. So for a car with an annual registration fee of 265 euros, its owner must pay the amount of 88.3 euros (265:12X4).

For lifting of immobility from June 15 to September 5, the period is calculated as 3 months. So for a car with an annual registration fee of 400 euros, its owner must pay the amount of 100 euros (400:12X3).

When are the monthly traffic taxes paid?

Traffic fees in the above cases are paid before the immobility is lifted. The owner or occupier of the vehicle is obliged to immobilize his vehicle again until the last day of the period for which the traffic tax has been paid and if it is a non-working day or coincides with a public holiday, on the next working day for the tax administration, day.

When the vehicle is at a standstill and if the vehicle has been moved to a new point, different from the one initially declared, the stopping point is declared again.

The fine for immobilizing the vehicle overdue

In case of overdue immobilization or non-immobilization, an independent fine is imposed equal to twice the annual traffic fees, minus twice the amount of already paid twelfths of the annual traffic fees.

What applies to the removal of forced immobility

In case of removal of forced immobility within the year 2023, they are paid exceptionally
proportionally the traffic fees for the months remaining until the end of the year.

Traffic fees in this case are paid within fifteen (15) days from
date on which the event that caused the forced immobility took place, while in case of late payment, a fine equal to twice the annual traffic fees is imposed.

For the calculation of the amount of traffic fees, the month in which the forced immobility is lifted is counted as a whole month regardless of the time of this lifting.

With an act of the competent service of the tax administration, the amount owed is established, based on the exact date of the immobility lifting, and the vehicle is put back into circulation.”
