OASA: “Ends” the paper ticket – The benefits for passengers – Economic Post

--

With the use of bank cards (even if they are stored on the mobile) instead of… traditional tickets, passengers will now be able to board the airport’s Express bus lines from today with the aim of expanding the new system by the end of 2024, which will be implemented as a pilot at the beginning, on all the lines of the OASA.

With the implementation of the innovative project by HST AE, a member of the TERNA ENERGY Group, Athens Communications is entering a new era in the transportation services provided to the public.

“New era for urban transport”

“Since 2014, when the PPP contract (60 million Euros) was signed, through which the new system of contactless transactions was implemented (amounting to 14 million Euros, with the state paying the amount due to it over a period of ten years with the payment model availability) we overcame with professionalism and patience all the problems presented with the benefits being multiple for passengers and the state. Athens’ urban transport is entering a new era”, noted Giorgos Agrafiotis, deputy managing director at TERNA ENERGY. As he mentioned, a similar system will also be implemented in Thessaloniki’s urban transport (and in the Metro which will operate in November).

“We are delivering 250 new electric buses to the citizens, we are implementing a contactless payment system at MMMs, it was our priority and we are putting it into practice. Urban transport is entering a new era, becoming smarter and increasing its revenue, the benefits are manifold. The passenger no longer needs to stand at the machine to issue a ticket. The system charges the card with the cheapest ticket that will be available depending on the route. By the end of 2024, it will be available on all OASA lines”, pointed out the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, announcing that in the coming days 140 new electric buses will hit the streets of Athens.

“We are upgrading transportation, improving the lives of our fellow citizens”, pointed out, among others, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christina Alexopoulou.

“Speed, economy, interoperability”

“Through the new system, speed, economy (the system ensures that the passenger will get the cheapest ticket) and interoperability (the system can work in addition to other mobility platforms) are ensured for the passengers. We are talking about contactless transactions as we all know them”, said Yiannis Xifaras, Secretary General of Transport.

“The landscape is changing”

“With the new buses added to the OASA fleet, the transport landscape is changing, we are saving energy, we are completely upgrading urban transport with passengers enjoying new possibilities”, argued the CEO of OASA, Giorgos Spiliopoulos. “Approximately 100 buses heading to the airport will initially be affected by the new system with the prospect of expansion to 6,500 points,” he explained.
