A combination of modern technology and old masterpieces led to the ““Impossible” statue, which is exhibited at Stockholm.

The statue from stainless steel weighing 500 kg and 150 cm high, which was manufactured using the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence, of advanced software solutions and precision manufacturing, is based on works by artists such as Michelangelo and Auguste Rodin and can now be seen at Museum of Science and Technology of Stockholm, where it is part of a permanent artificial intelligence exhibition.

The company behind the statue is the Swedish manufacturer of metal cutting tools and mining tools Sandvikwhich wanted to showcase digital fabrication skills and metalworking and cutting tools.

Sandvik stated that the statue was designed by training multiple AI models on the work of five sculptures, drawing on some of their best-known features, such as Michelangelo’s “dynamic off-balance poses” and Rodin’s “muscular structure and reflexivity.” The other sources of inspiration were Kete Kollwitz, Kotaro Takamura and Augusta Savage.

During the production process, more than 20 different tools, such as turning, milling, drilling, threading and punching tools, were used in combination with various software solutions. Overall, they were used 2.5 tons of stainless steel of which 2 tons were removed during processing. All steel processed was recycled and reused.
