An Italian publication “lit fires” against Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the Italian newspaper Il Tirreno, the Ukrainian president rented his luxury villa in Tuscany to rich Russians.
The Italian media is criticizing the Ukrainian president as this appears to have happened at a time when Zelensky is calling for even more sanctions against Russian citizens from the EU over the invasion of Ukraine.
What does the article in question say?
According to the publication, a Russian couple based in London had rented the villa for the month of August, paying the sum of 50,000 euros. The villa, located in the seaside town of Forte dei Marmi, was bought by Zelensky for four million euros when the Ukrainian president was still an actor, the report said.
Photos posted by the couple on social media confirmed they were staying at Zelenskiy’s property, Il Tirreno reported.
What does the broker say?
Corriere Della Serra, for its part, contacted the broker managing the property, who denied that the tenants in question were Russian. “The tenants were not Russian, but I can’t say more because it falls under the privacy of their private lives.”
However, the well-known Italian newspaper reported that the tenants are likely of Russian origin, “but have long been domiciled in London and may have English citizenship”.
It is worth noting that Volodymyr Zelensky in March specifically called on the Italian government to “freeze all (including Russian) real estate, accounts and yachts, from Scheherazade to the smallest,” referring to a 140-meter superyacht ( 460 feet) reportedly owned by a wealthy Russian privateer and was moored in the Italian port of Marina di Carrara.
Zelensky and his circle have a large fortune, of which the most expensive residences in London stand out.
