The chairman of the Board of Directors of the second largest was found dead Russian oil production company Lukoil, Ravil Maganovwhen, under unclear circumstances, he fell from a hospital window in Moscow.

Some Russian media also reported the death of 67-year-old Maganov, who was also Lukoil’s vice president, citing unnamed sources.

67-year-old Maganov was hospitalized in a ward on the 6th floor of the Central Clinical Hospital on Marshala Timoshenko Street.

It is not known what caused the businessman to fall.

The oil company issued a statement a few hours after the news of Ravil Maganov’s death and attributed his death to a “serious illness”.

“We regret to announce that Ravil Maganov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC LUKOIL, has died after a serious illness,” the announcement reads, among other things.

It is noted that in early March, Lukoil’s board of directors had called for an end to the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, expressing its solidarity with the victims of “this tragedy”.

Maganov took the position of executive vice president for Exploration and Production at Lukoil in 2006.

He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1993 – shortly after the establishment of the company – and is a distinguished expert of Oil and Natural Gas of the Russian Federation.

He became the company’s president in 2020.

Among the honors he had received was the Government Prize of the Russian Federation for Science and Engineering.

The mysterious deaths of Russian oligarchs

Ravil Maganov is not the first Russian oligarch to drop dead under unclear circumstances.

Last July the millionaire businessman Yuri Voronov was found dead in his home, with a gunshot wound to the head, in an affluent suburb of St. Petersburg.

Voronov, 61, was the head of a company working with Gazprom in the Arctic.

In May, a former senior Lukoil executive, Mr Alexander Shubotinalso reportedly died under unusual circumstances, at the age of 43.

Local media reported that he suffered a heart attack after consuming valerian, an herb that can cause an irregular heart rhythm in some people.

In total 7 Russian oligarchsseveral of whom were active in the oil and gas sectors, died in 2022 under mysterious circumstances.

US Seizure Warrant for Lukoil Aircraft

As it became known today, the competent US authorities have it in their hands warrant for the seizure of an aircraft worth $45 million of Russia’s PJSC Lukoil.

The plane flew to and from Russia in violation of US Commerce Department sanctions against Moscow.
