A senior official told Bloomberg that the decision to postpone was made due to changes in Erdogan’s schedule.

The official said that the new date of the visit will be discussed with his counterparts.

It is noted that earlier, the American Bloomberg agency, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the meeting between the two leaders at the White House would take place on May 9. The Turkish channel Halk TV had also broadcast that their meeting was finalized.

However, in the last 24 hours, a diplomatic thriller has unfolded regarding Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to the US and his meeting with Joe Biden.

White House National Security spokesman John Kirby, speaking to reporters during the regular briefing, said that in the program of the American president there is no specific visit of Erdogan.

Specifically, when Kirby was asked if Erdogan’s meeting with Hamas leader Haniyeh would be an issue in the meeting with Biden or if it would jeopardize the visit of the Turkish president, he replied: “There is nothing on the agenda to talk about in terms of a specific visit of President Erdogan. So, I have no comment on that.”

With reporters also pressing a question about “who hosts the leader of Hamas,” Kirby said: “Again, I’ll let President Erdogan speak in the meetings he has. We have been very clear about our position on Hamas and who they are and what they stand for. I’ll leave it at that.”
