The Ukrainian strikes on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant could have catastrophic consequences, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today, as reported by the Russian state news agency TASS.

Shoigu also reportedly said that foreign advisers were helping Ukraine organize acts of sabotage on Russian soil. However, he did not provide evidence to support his claims.

Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of reckless military action over the nuclear plant.

Shoigu also said NATO troops have created additional threats to Russia by moving closer to its borders, but Moscow has no military or geopolitical interest in attacking NATO countries. According to TASS, the Russian minister said that Washington is deliberately prolonging the conflict in Ukraine by putting unprecedented pressure, including on its partners.

Shoigu accused the US-led QUAD and AUKUS alliances of trying to reshape the security structure in the Pacific region in a way that serves them, TASS reported.
