US Senator Bernie Sanders fired back at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in response to his claims that criticism of the Israeli government’s policies is anti-Semitic.
Specifically, with his statement, which was posted on his Twitter account, Bernie Sanders, addressing the Israeli Prime Minister, said:
“No, Mr. Netanyahu. It is not anti-Semitic or pro-Hamas to point out that in just over six months your extremist government has killed 34,000 Palestinians and injured more than 77,000 – seventy percent of whom are women and children.”
At the same time, he meaningfully noted that “Anti-Semitism is a vile and disgusting form of bigotry that has caused untold harm to many millions of people.” and begged Netanyahu not to offend “the intelligence of the American people by trying to distract us from the immoral and illegal war policies of your extremist and racist administration”. In fact, he called on him not to use anti-Semitism to “distract attention from the criminal indictment you face in Israeli courts.”

“No, Mr. Netanyahu. It is not anti-Semitic or pro-Hamas to point out that in just over six months your extremist government has killed 34,000 Palestinians and injured more than 77,000 – seventy percent of whom are women and children.
It is not anti-Semitic to point out that your bombings have completely destroyed more than 221,000 homes in Gaza, leaving over a million people homeless – almost half the population.
It is not anti-Semitic to point out that your government has wiped out Gaza’s urban infrastructure – electricity, water and sewage.
It is not anti-Semitic to realize that your government has annihilated Gaza’s health care system, shutting down 26 hospitals and killing more than 400 health care workers.
It is not anti-Semitic to condemn your government’s destruction of all 12 Gaza universities and 56 schools, while hundreds more have been damaged, leaving 625,000 students without an education.
It is not anti-Semitic to agree with almost all humanitarian organizations that your government, in violation of US law, has unjustifiably blocked humanitarian aid coming to Gaza, creating the conditions in which hundreds of thousands of children face malnutrition and starvation.
Mr. Netanyahu. Anti-Semitism is a vile and disgusting form of bigotry that has caused untold harm to many millions of people. But please do not insult the intelligence of the American people by trying to distract us from the immoral and illegal war policies of your extremist and racist administration. Do not use anti-Semitism to distract from the criminal indictment you face in Israeli courts. It is not anti-Semitic to hold you accountable for your actions.”
