The Economist puts K. Mitsotakis on the list of candidates to succeed von der Leyen

--

The name of Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been heard in the “wells” of Brussels as one of the candidates who could replace the Ursula von der Leyen at its “wheel”. European Commission.

But for the first time, this possibility is publicly mentioned by an authoritative Media, such as Economist.

As the magazine writes in today’s issue, “The situation will lead to a stalemate if the candidate proposed by the leaders fails to secure a majority in parliament. If not von der Leyen, then who? THE Mario Draghi, the former prime minister of Italy, will soon publish a report on the future of the European economy that is likely to go hand in hand with Macron’s federal vision and impress MEPs looking for a strong figure. But he is 76 years old and has played no role in the election campaign for the European elections.

Others on the Center Right, such as Kyriakos Mitsotakis, would face similar questions to those faced by the outgoing president. That’s why Ursula von der Leyen still has the best chance. But the road to a second term is likely to face many problems.”

It is the first time, therefore, that a publication reveals that the name of the Greek prime minister is being discussed behind the scenes for the highest office of the European Commission.

“The discussion does not concern me”

“There is absolutely no question for me,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis in yesterday’s interview he granted to SKAI, when asked if he is interested in a European position. “This talk about a European office”, he added, “may be to a certain extent flattering, the name of a Greek prime minister is not often heard for such important offices, but it doesn’t concern me”.

What’s the surprise name that Politico reported?

Politico in its article yesterday talked about 6+1 candidates who could replace Ursula von der Leyen. Mario Draghi, Roberta Metzola, Christine Lagarde, Klaus Johannis, Andrej Plenkovic, Thierry Breton and a surprise name. Maybe they mean Kyriakos Mitsotakis?

The article is in Greek
