Residents of the Paris district where the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret is located couldn’t believe their eyes when they woke up in the early hours of the morning to a loud noise, to find that the iconic wings of the famous windmill had come off and fallen to the ground.
No one can understand how the incident happened in the heart of Paris, since the particular windmill of the cabaret was checked every week.
No injuries were reported, Paris firefighters said, adding that there was no longer any risk of collapse. The reasons for this decline are currently unknown.
“We don’t know what happened, it happened between 02:00 and 03:00 a.m. No one was injured,” the company spokesman said, adding that the last show of the day had ended at 01:15 a.m.
“This is the first time such an accident has occurred since its creation on October 6, 1889,” the company told AFP, which had “no information” on the cause of this accident.

“Fortunately, it happened after the closing,” added the same source, stating that “every week, the technical management of the cabaret checks the mechanism of the wings of the mill and had not found any problems.”
The only serious accident that happened to the “temple of cancan dance” was a construction fire in 1915, according to the cabaret, which forced it to close for 9 years.
The famous cabaret located at the foot of the Montmartre hill, synonymous with crazy Parisian nights along with the Lido and its can-can dancers, and in front of which thousands of visitors take pictures every day, will celebrate its 135th anniversary on October 6.

The Moulin Rouge is open daily and presents two shows every night welcoming 850 visitors or 600,000 annually.
