Washington kicked Turkey out of its program to buy and build 100 F-35s because of Ankara’s purchase of Russian S-400s.
The Turks are activating the Russian S-400s and it seems that they are making the Americans furious with this action.
Turkey is likely to activate the Russian S-400s on its border with Iraq, against the Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan, notes the authoritative American businessinsider.gr.
According to reports in the Turkish press, the Russians S-400 they will be activated to counter drones before they enter Turkish territory but the Russian system is designed to counter cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.
Washington expelled Turkey from its program to buy and build 100 F-35s because of Ankara’s purchase of Russian S-400s, which Turkey had never previously activated.
The US publication points out that Turkey has only activated the S-400 once in the past, in 2019, to test the Turkish F-16 and F-4 against the Russian system.
Turks activate Russian S-400s and make Americans furious
According to Ali Bakir, a Turkish professor and analyst at Qatar’s Ibn Khaldon Center, the possible activation of the S-400 is perhaps directed against Iranian ballistic missiles.
At the same time, however, Suleiman Ozeren, a lecturer at the American University, emphasizes that a possible activation of the S-400 is for internal consumption by Recep Tayyip Ernogan, whose party was the one that bought the S-400.
Such a development will further deepen the gap between Ankara and Washington, while it will also be considered a message to Russia, that the alliance with Moscow is fully established.
