The president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas states that it is willing to take control of the Gaza Strip after the fall of Hamasaccording to the New York Times.

According to the report, Abbas would accept taking power in Gaza only if the Biden administration committed to promoting the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Abbas is the leader of Fatah, a major rival of Hamas. Fatah has been driven out of Gaza since Hamas took power in 2007.

In the meantime, highly Hamas officialsincluding its political leader, Ismail Haniya and its former leader Khaled Meshaal, arrived Thursday in Cairo, the Palestinian Islamist organization that controls the Gaza Strip said in a statement.

The Hamas delegation met with the head of Egypt’s General Intelligence AgencyAbbas Kamel, and discussed the situation in Gaza, the statement added.
