According to the Israeli publication, 8 Apache helicopters took off as soon as the Hamas attack became known. In the chaos that prevailed, the Israeli pilots fired indiscriminately at anything they saw moving! Vehicles and people!
“Apache helicopters appear to have targeted vehicles leaving for Gaza from the Nova electronic music festival and nearby kibbutzim. They attacked cars knowing that Israeli prisoners could be inside. They also shot unarmed people getting out of cars or walking through fields in the Gaza Strip. An Apache pilot hesitated whether he should shoot people and cars returning to Gaza. He knew that many of these vehicles may have been carrying Israeli prisoners. But he chose to open fire anyway. “I chose to shoot believing that the probability of shooting hostages was low.” However, he admitted that his judgment was “not 100% certain”.
“I understand that we have to shoot here and now,” said the commander of the Apache unit, Lt. Col. E. “Shooting people on our territory – that’s something I never thought I would do.”
Lieutenant Colonel A., a reserve pilot in the same unit, described a climate of confusion: “I am at a loss as to what to shoot, because the targets were too many”.
