Stefanos Kasselakis is traveling to the Belgian capital just 24 hours before the crucial meeting of the party’s Central Committee in which his unity will probably be judged. After Tsakalotou’s intervention at the event of the “Epochi” newspaper, the crisis in the official opposition party does not seem to have a way out and everything will be decided by the developments regarding the deletions of the four executives who have severely criticized the party’s president.

Two-day visit to Brussels

The visit of the president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance to Brussels will last two days (November 7-8), where he will meet the party’s Eurogroup, in which Stelios Kouloglou no longer participates, who left leaving serious scars against Stefanos Kasselakis, while Petros Kokkalis has also criticized him. The latter has even left open the possibility of founding or participating in a new scheme, depending on the developments in the official opposition party.

The meeting with the party’s Eurogroup is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Greek time), while tomorrow Wednesday he will have a series of meetings with the Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, the president of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, Spanish MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar , the president of the Group of the Greens in the European Parliament, Philippe Lambert and the co-presidents of the Group of the Left in the European Parliament, Martin Sirdevan and Manon Aubry and MEPs of the Group.

The deletions

However, the developments in the party continue to run, the split is visible and Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, responding to Euclid Tsakalotos, who in fact announced the establishment of a new party, said that “Mr. Tsakalotos showed that there is no bridge”. “I think they will clear things up very quickly,” he added.

“The question is whether with this toxic climate, we can be in this party,” Euclid Tsakalotos said on Monday night, noting that “nobody here thinks we should be in a party that has only their own ideas us”, as well as that it is “too far from us that we don’t like this party anymore because it doesn’t have our ideas”.

However, he raised the issue of a lack of political debate, noting that “in the Political Secretariat 17 members made 17 good speeches, criticizing the president, for what he said in BSE, about Israel. The impressive thing was that no one on the other side answered. No one. What lesson am I taking? That the political debate does not concern them. The Conference program does not concern them. They are concerned with a mechanism that they consider to have a majority. Political discussion in these terms is difficult.”

Commenting on all this, Evangelos Apostolakis, from SKAI, defended the decision of Stefanos Kasselakis to propose four party officials for deletion, saying that the president of SYRIZA-PS “did not act rashly with the deletions, there were reasons. In order to correct the situation, they must also do something.”

And he added that “the president gave everyone opportunities, he said from the beginning that he is unifying, he made invitations. The margins are running out, but the work to be done is great and everyone is needed.”

And he emphasized: “A president was elected, he should be given the opportunity. From the first day we have a reaction”, and “this situation in SYRIZA must end very soon”.

Sia Anagnostopoulou: “I would like to convince Ev. Jackal”

The Anagnostopoulou Company tried to act on its side as a fire brigade, which also at the “Epochi” event spoke in favor of unity, despite the difficulties.

In an interview with the radio station “Kokkino 105.5”, she said “against the deletions”, explaining that “they do not solve anything”.

“If in SYRIZA we do not practice dialectic, we cannot do what we expect from society, that is, politicization,” he said, noting that “in SYRIZA dialogue and confrontation are missing.”

“I have a very strong sign of party patriotism. We have to defend this party that we built, with its good and bad things”, said Sia Anagnostopoulou, who emphasized that “what has been missing this time, is the political ethos. Here we don’t have an exchange of arguments, but an exchange of insults.”

He added: “Things that work conspiratorially and undermine unity must be taken off the table”, and on the issue of deletions he said that “when the leadership group points the finger in this way, it torpedoes the case. Magic is not about who is more powerful.”

“It would be my great pleasure if, with my small efforts, I could convince Euclid Tsakalotos and everyone else to fight for our party through our party,” he stressed.

The weekend battle

The meeting of the Central Committee of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance will take place at the “President” hotel on the coming weekend of November 11 and 12.

The president of the party, for now, seems to be keeping his cards closed, without clarifying what he intends to do on the issue of deletions, which will be an element on which much will depend. Information indicates that the issue will be brought to the table by the members of “Umbrella” in one way or another, while Stefanos Kasselakis receives different suggestions from his colleagues on how he should proceed.

Kasselakis for Simitis: I have no business with those who wasted so many billions.

In the meantime, the president of SYRIZA-PS responded to those who wondered why he did not attend the event in honor of the former prime minister and president of PASOK, Costas Simitis.

On his way to the party offices, Stefanos Kasselakis was asked by a journalist about this and he replied:

“What business do I have with all those who have wasted so many billions of euros of the Greek people. We forget the entanglement of these years. It wasn’t just modernization. Let others take over the mantle of the country’s debt. SYRIZA certainly did not cause it.”
