1 GTA: The “pride of Russia” was decimated, the Army tasked with Moscow’s defense, says the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The legendary 1st Guards Tank Army (1st GTA) of Russia, which was tasked with the defense of Moscow in case of attack by the NATOhas been “severely injured,” the British Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing, based on information collected by its intelligence services.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, this Army was forced to withdraw from the Kharkiv front, one of the two points where the Ukrainian counterattack took place in recent days.

“1 GTA suffered heavy losses in the initial phase of the invasion and was not fully reconstituted before the Ukrainian counter-attack on Kharkiv,” British Intelligence reports.

They remind us that the Specific Army was one of the most famous in Russia, which was assigned to the defense of Moscow and was intended to lead counterattacks in the event of a war with NATO.

“With 1 GTA and other Western Military Region formations hit, Russia’s conventional force designed to counter NATO has been severely weakened. It will likely take years for Russia to regain the capability of this Army,” the British Ministry of Defense adds.
