With photographers constantly at his side, some noticed some disturbing images regarding his health.
In particular, photos of King Charles’ fingers were circulated on social media, with some users expressing their concerns and others jokingly comparing his fingers to sausages.
What do the doctors say?
Dr. Gareth Nye, a senior lecturer at the University of Chester in the UK, revealed what the swollen and sometimes red fingers; for the health of the monarch.
The doctor told the Daily Star that there are several health conditions that could be causing Charles’ swollen fingers.
He explained that while there are many possible causes, the edema – or the fluid retention is the most likely.
“Oedema is a condition where the body begins to retain fluid in the extremities, usually the feet and ankles, but also the fingers, which causes them to swell,” said Dr. Nye.
“Oedema is a common condition and mainly affects people over the age of 65, as the ability to control fluids is limited,” he added.
Another possible cause is arthritis.
“Arthritis is another common condition over the age of 60. It often affects three main areas in the hand – the thumb joint or either joint in the fingers.
Fingers are usually done stiff and swollen and although medication may help with pain, swelling may remain.
“Uncommon causes may include a high-salt diet leading to fluid retention, while certain medications can lead to swelling as a side effect, such as blood pressure medications or steroid medications.”
Meanwhile the doctor pointed out that swelling is not a sign of a worrisome health issue wanting to reassure the public.
“There are certainly no immediate health concerns from the swollen fingers, and it’s likely a sign of his age.”
