Weather: Explosive cocktail today of Foen-type winds, dust and heat – The first forecast for Easter

The African dust is back and will cover the country today, while the weather scenario calls for a high rise in temperature and gale force winds.

Today is expected to be a difficult day as the atmosphere will be stifling in several areas of the country, due to the African dust which will be combined with the rise in temperature.

Gusty east-southeast winds that will reach 8 Beaufort, with gusts reaching 9 Beaufort in the Aegean, are the reason they will bring the African dust.

Kolydas: Foen-type winds are coming

The director of EMY, Thodoris Kolidas, spoke about Foen-type winds, on the occasion of the weather forecast for the next few days.

Th. Kolydas said that today, Tuesday, the temperature may rise even more and even exceed 30 degrees, mainly in Crete, or where the locally strengthened downwinds of the Foen type will once again play an important role.

“Many times we have seen comparable or even greater differences of 16°C between North-West Greece and Southern Island areas, especially in cases where strong southerly downward winds prevail. Of course, we are not referring to something “unprecedented”, such as e.g. for today’s 28 °C in Heraklion and 11 to 12 °C in the northwest.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, we may catch even higher prices (the 30s), but it won’t be much, as reported in the press. These prices will be limited mainly in Crete, or where the locally strengthened Foen-type descending winds will again play an important role,” wrote Mr Kolidas specifically.

“The temperature deviations in the lower layers of the atmosphere (at the level of 850 hPa, at a height of 1,500m from the surface) show us that after the noticeable drop in temperature since Thursday, the weather will warm up again, heading towards Easter. But there won’t be big temperature extremes, like the ones we experienced the previous 15 days,” Thodoris Kolidas also wrote on Platform X last week.

According to EMY, for today Tuesday, April 23in the Ionian, continental and northern Aegean, clouds with local rains are predicted and in the northern Ionian and the western, central and northern continental sporadic storms.

Weather: Cloudy with local rains and sporadic storms in western Sterea, Epirus and the northern Ionian. The phenomena after noon will gradually weaken and in the evening will be limited to Epirus.
Winds: East southeast 4 to 6 and locally in the south 6 to 8 Beaufort. From the afternoon in the north and from the evening and in the south they will turn to northwesterly 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 14 to 24 and in the south up to 27 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 3 to 4 degrees lower.

EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS
Weather: Cloudy with local rain and sporadic storms. The phenomena after noon will weaken and quickly stop.
Winds: East southeast 6 to 7 Beaufort and in Evia locally 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 13 to 23 and in the south up to 25 degrees Celsius.

CYCLADES, CRETE
