The most photographed yacht in the world had a maritime accident in Kythnos, and quite a serious one at that.

The ultra-luxury boat “007” which has associated its name with James Bond, ran aground on Friday night in Kythnos and showed an inflow of water.

In fact, according to the Coast Guard, the yacht was found in a semi-submerged state, while the five passengers, of non-Greek origin, were not in danger. So far, the cause of the accident is not known, but serious questions remain as to how it happened.

The impressive yacht has been designed by Yavuz Mete, as reported by specialized websites for yachts.

Built at the Turkish shipyards Tuzla on the Sea of Marmara, the vessel can accommodate ten people in six spacious cabins in addition to the ten crew and is powered by two 2X 1155 BHP Caterpillars. It should be noted that this is the most photographed yacht in the world.

Built by Aegean Yachts. This yacht company based in Turkey specializes in building fully customized steel and aluminum yachts.

The company was founded in 1976 by Sinan Ozer and provides services to distinguished clients from all over the world. The ‘007’ yacht was formerly known as ‘Amazon A’ and was later refurbished and renamed ‘Royal Enterprise’.

According to information from Zougla.gr, the current owner of “007” is a Swiss businessman of Israeli origin.

However, the fact that this particular boat sank is impressive. And because they are of Turkish construction, many people wonder if the Turks also make frigates in this way! Let’s hope they are of the same quality!

The Coast Guard’s statement on the incident in detail:

“The Port Authority of Kythnos was informed in the evening hours of Friday by the Unified Center for Coordination of Search and Rescue L.S.-EL.AKT., that the yacht “007” of the flag of Great Britain, has run aground in the sea area of Kolones Bay, Kythnos with five foreigners on board.

The E/P vessel “DELTA II” T.Saronicou 4760 rushed to the area with a member of the relevant Port Authority on board, where it located the above semi-submerged T/C, at a distance of approximately 15 meters from the western side of the sandy beach of Kolona bay. The passengers, all in good health, transferred to the auxiliary boat and were then transferred to the port of “Mericha” Kythnos.

A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Port of Kythnos, while no marine pollution was observed since the incident”.
