Legislation is in effect
The validity of Greek passports is doubled from today, from 5 to 10 years.
This is an implementation of the recently passed legislation, which doubles the validity of passports in 10 years from their issuance, both for adults and for minors who have reached the age of 14.
With this arrangement, notes the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the cost for the production of new documents (passports, identity cards, driving licenses, etc.) is reduced by at least 56,544,000 euros, which is why the tender for the contract is canceled and a new one will be announced, with the new data.
Also, the ministry notes, with the new provision our country harmonizes with the international standards of validity of passports, while this is part of the wider planning to reduce bureaucracy and save additional uniformed personnel, to be allocated to security services of the citizens.
