The unfortunate woman lived on the ground floor of an apartment building in the center of Corfu together with her son who faces chronic psychological problems. According to the manner in which the 93-year-old woman was found dead, everything points to homicide.
“She is my neighbor, here we are in the neighborhood, in the same apartment building. She lives on the ground floor. He has a son who has psychological problems, medication in the mental hospital. He was not aggressive, to hit, to do. He’s quiet, but he’s on medication. She was locked inside. Somewhere she was going out on the corridor to her balcony there, she wasn’t talking to anyone,” says a neighbor of the woman.
According to the medical examiner, Ioannis Aivatidis, who performed an autopsy at the scene, the elderly woman seems to have lived through moments of martyrdom at the hands of her killer trying to defend herself, but in vain.
“The cause of death is strangulation. The elderly woman suffered self-defense injuries as she resisted. It appears that some form of wrestling ensued. It is noteworthy that there are no injuries at all on the neck, but by palpation I recognized a crack in the neck and realized that there is a fracture underneath.”
Testimony on LIVE NEWS reveals that a short time ago the 93-year-old was the victim of a robbery by a couple who pretended to know them and thus took the sum of €5,000 from her.
“A quiet woman, but they say two months ago a couple had gone, a blonde and a man, there as she was sitting on the railings in her yard, a woman had gone there and said to her: ‘Don’t you know me? I’m so-and-so. Can I come to the bathroom for a moment?’ And this misfortune opened the door for her. Did he come in from the balcony there through the railings because they are low? I don’t know, and they say they found €5,000 and took it from her.”
Outside her house, two small candles coexist next to the markings on the now closed shutters of her house. Without there being any signs of robbery or violation and given that gloves were used to strangle her, the police authorities are now turning to the environment of the elderly woman.
