Spaceman Haaland gave the trigger and Manchester City set up an unimaginable feast against visiting Nottingham Forest, with the counter stopping at… a respectable 6-0. Absolute Arsenal against Aston Villa (2-1) and top.
Does it fit City’s style? Will he be able to catch on in the Premier League? After just 5 games Erling Haaland has made these questions more like a joke. The leading striker in the world at the moment, has caught fire and with a 2nd consecutive hat-trick in the English league, he led Pep Guardiola’s team to the crushing of Nottingham Forest at the Etihad (6-0). The Norwegian now has 9 goals in 5 matches, breaking the relevant records to start the month of August as well.
In the 12th minute, the Norwegian party started, when after Foden’s cross, it took just one touch to open the scoring. At 17′ Lodi had a chance to equalize for Forest, but at 23′ it was all over. At that point, Haaland wanted to give the assist back to Foden, but the Englishman was too late to execute, the ball returned to his feet and into an empty net he sent it into the net for 2-0. In the 38th minute, the left-footed striker scored his second consecutive hat-trick, when after the headers of Foden and Stones, he also scored one and raised the score to 3-0.
This was also the score of the first half since in the 44th minute Alvarez hit the post with a left shot, but in the replay the Citizens scored two more goals. In the 51st minute, after Bernardo Silva’s pass, Joao Cancelo made it 4-0 with an elusive shot into the window, and in the 65th minute, after an assist from Mahrez, Alvarez scored with a diagonal shot from inside the area to make it 5- 0. The same player with a left-footed volley in the 87th minute made the final 6-0.
At the “Emirates”, Arsenal were completely superior to Aston Villa and much more comfortable than the 2-1 final shows, they made 5/5 in the league and continue to lead the race.
Mikel Arteta’s transformed and impressive team this year grabbed the visitors by the throat from the start of the match and threatened constantly. Eventually, the Gunners’ dominance turned into a goal on the half-hour mark, with Jesus finding the net for the third time this year after Martines’ tragic mistake made it 1-0 at half-time.
Same picture in the second half, with the hosts creating one phase after another, but seeing Aston Villa from… nowhere to equalize in the 74th minute, but also having serious complaints from the referee. Because Douglas Luiz scored from a direct corner but Ramsdale failed to clear after being given an attacking foul which was never awarded! Arsenal, however, immediately found the answer and three minutes later Martinelli made it 2-1, to give victory to his team, who continues absolutely!
Finally, Bournemouth and Wolves remained at 0-0 in a bad match, with the hosts reaching 4 points and the visitors 3, but still without a win after 5 matches.
