April 28th Calendar: See who’s celebrating today!

Today, Sunday April 28, according to the Calendar, we honor the memory of the Holy Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus. Also, it is Palm Sunday.

The Holy Nine Martyrs of Kyzikos, i.e. Theognis, Rufus, Antipater, Theostichus, Artemas, Magnus, Theodolus, Thaumasios and Philemon he came from various places. However, they were all arrested together in Kyzikos during the period of the persecutions.

When they were brought before the local ruler they displayed admirable bravery and defended their faith with impudence and courage. For this reason and to bend their strength they were thrown into prison. They were beheaded because they remained steadfast in their faith.

World Day for Health and Safety at Work

The International Labor Organization (ILO) has established April 28 as “World Day for Health and Safety at Work”, with the aim of focusing international attention on the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases.

According to data from the IOC:

• 2,000,000 people die from work accidents and occupational diseases, every year, all over the world.
• 270,000,000 work accidents and 160,000,000 occupational disease incidents.
• 440,000 workers die from hazardous substances (100,000 from lime).
• A worker dies every 15 seconds, 6,000 every day.
• The total cost of accidents and illnesses amounts to 4% of the gross world product annually.

Conclusion: Labor kills more people than Wars
