Apologies are in progress in Evelpidon of 31 of the 67 arrested for the murder of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis last December in Rentis, as well as a series of other criminal acts.

Of the 31 who were brought to court today, 15 have completed their pleas and one has been remanded in custody.

He is a 31-year-old man who allegedly has a leading role in the criminal organization of hooligans.

also three were released, among them the 16-year-old brother of the pre-arrested 18-year-old. The case is handled by five investigators, while criminal proceedings have been brought against the 67 arrested for 28 offences, 12 of which are felonies.

At 16 years old the restrictive conditions of appearing at the police station of his area and the prohibition of attending sports matches were imposed.

According to the information of ertnews.gr, the minor denied the accusations and claimed that it was the first time he got hold of a naval flare and when he realized how dangerous it was, he threw it down. Among other things, the 16-year-old is reported to have said characteristically: “Suddenly after the first set the court door opened and I saw about 100 people running out. Then my brother followed them to see what was going on. In my attempt to reach my brother who was well ahead of me, I remained on the spot for some minutes in the crowd, when some stranger gave me a flare to hold. For the first time in my life I caught a flare. I didn’t know exactly what it is and how it works. As soon as I realized that there was some dangerous object in my hand, I was scared. I immediately let her out of my hand and immediately threw her down.”

The process continues for the rest, while tomorrow the last 32 defendants will be excused.
