We will pay more for the traditional arrow this year, as traders estimate that its price can exceed 15 euros.

The Ministry of Development continues its efforts to contain the prices of meat in supermarkets, at least at last year’s levels, with the help of the measure for the Easter Basket.

Easter is just around the corner and consumers have already started their search for the lamb and goat that is not traditionally missing from the Easter table. Consumers look set to dig deep into their pockets to purchase the traditional arrowhead, with traders estimating its price to reach as much as €15 per kilo.

“When the producer wants around 8.50-9 euros per kilo, the trader will sell around 11 and at around 15 euros – maybe even a little more – the butcher will sell,” the president of the pan-Hellenic federation of butchers’ shop owners, Savvas Kesidis, told ANT1.

The rush to Varvakeio Agora for Easter goods has begun, with consumers anxiously searching for the golden ratio between quality and cost. According to the merchants, the prices in Varvakeio Agora are moving at last year’s levels. Lamb and goat are at 12 euros per kilo, while liver at 6.99 euros per kilo.

“Since yesterday, interest has started from consumers. They started buying livers, intestines. They get lamb and goat for pot and oven. The prices are at last year’s levels, so I think they are also satisfactory for consumers. We have put a lot of “back” in order to keep the prices low” stressed to ANT1 the president of Varvakiou, Andreas Niotis.

Respite for many consumers is the “Easter Basket” which has already come into effect in supermarkets and includes Easter dishes. From Holy Week, market traffic is expected to increase.
