African-American man killed by police in Ohio: ‘I can’t breathe’ shouted

His police Ohio released a video of an African-American man who died at a local hospital after repeatedly telling police officers “i can’t breathe‘, while they had pinned him down on the floor of a bar and handcuffed him, an incident that brought back memories of his murder George Floyd in 2020.

In a body cam video released yesterday by the Canton Police Department, officers are seen arresting the man, who has been identified as Frank Tysonaged 53, who was suspected of leaving the scene of a traffic accident on April 18.

The Canton Police Department is not currently available to comment on the video, which was posted online by various local media outlets, or to confirm the details of the incident. The 36-minute video begins with a police officer who randomly finds a vehiclewhich has crashed into a power pole and a passer-by tells him that the driver of the vehicle fled and went to a nearby bar.

Police are then seen entering the store, where they find Tyson standing at the bar. A scuffle ensues as they attempt to grab him by the arms and he repeatedly shouts “They are trying to kill me” and “Call the sheriff». The officers wrestle Tyson to the floor and handcuff him. One of them can be seen placing one knee on his back near his neck for about 30 seconds.

Tyson can be heard repeating: “I can’t breathe. I can’t… get off my neck“, while a police officer shouts “Calm down” and “Are you okbefore standing up. Then, on to the footage shows Tyson face down on the floor, motionless, for about six minutes, while the police officers talk to the patrons. They then check on Tyson, who doesn’t seem to be responding. They are heard saying: “Is he breathing?”, “Does he have a pulse?”

Eight minutes after he’s handcuffed, they take them off and start CPR. Paramedics arrive at the scene and take Tyson out on a stretcher, according to the video. Tyson died at a local hospital, according to WKYC, an NBC affiliate in Cleveland. Reuters is currently unable to confirm the information. His official cause of death has not been determined.

The incident is reminiscent of Floyd’s deadly confrontation with Minneapolis police officers four years ago. A cellphone video captured Floyd’s killing, with the footage sparking a wave of protests against police brutality and racism.

The Canton Police Department officers involved in the Tyson incident were identified as Beau Sonnege and Campden Birch, WKYC reported. Both have been placed on administrative leave while the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigates the incident, according to the same source.
