Its third season Bridgerton preparing to premieres on Netflix on May 16 and according to what has been known it will have spicy content. So much so that there was an accident during the filming of the love scenes. The revelation was made by Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, during her interview with 7News Australia. She explained that she and Luke Newton, who plays her crush Colin Bridgerton, broke a piece of furniture on set.
“Yes we did” said Nicola Coughlan with Luke Newton adding “we could laugh about it”. The laughs also come from their long friendship, as Newton explained, which makes their scenes together easier.
“It felt like a really safe space,” Newton said. “There were moments where we could explore the scene and try different ways and ended up with a piece of furniture breaking“.
“We just laughed,” he added, saying that some of their laughs could be included in the series. “And then, I think Nicola spoke, in her Irish accent and I thought it was going to be so special – I mean, it might be in the final edit that we burst out laughing – because I think it suits Colin and Pen, also. That would be so nice.”
Earlier in the month, Nicola Coughlan opened up about the sex scenes on SiriusXM Hits 1 as well. She explained that she and Newton found the closeness “really funny” and instead of being “very professional” about it, they joked around.
She said that she didn’t know what it would be like to shoot love scenes for the new season but “it was really a lot of fun. I didn’t think it would be“.
The Bridgerton star described that at first it felt like a stunt but then they were given the freedom to have a point of view and had a lot to add. “That makes you feel pretty empowered.”
