“I live without fear of Diabetes”: Event of the Association of People with Diabetes Piraeus and Islands | Social newspaper

A really wonderful event was organized by the Association of People with Diabetes Piraeus and Islands with the kind cooperation of the Association of People with S.D. of Patras “Zoi Glykia”.

The event was special as it was framed by the screening of the first short film about S.D., created in Greece by the Patras Association starring the well-known actor Alexandros Bourdoumis and entitled “I live without fear of you”.

The event took place on April 21 in the welcoming venue of Piraikos, which was kindly offered by the President of the Association, Mr. Evangelos Karlaftis, and which was massively overwhelmed by the members and friends of the Association.

After the screening of the film, which awakened everyone’s memories of experiences with Diabetes, the diagnosis, the emotional changes, the acceptance and the common course, Diabetes was examined from another angle, its socio-psychological side as well as how it affects the soul, health and quality of life.

This role was assumed and carried out with complete success by the renowned doctors: Dr. Stella Iraklianou, Pathologist/Diabetologist Dr. Stavros Bousboulas, Pathologist/ Diabetologist and the Clinical Dietitian Ms. Florence Bakomitrou.

A discussion with the attendees followed in a very warm atmosphere. We heard experiences and experiences, difficulties but also optimistic perspectives given by the doctors who interpreted the multiple messages of the film!

The event was coordinated by the Presidents of the Associations: Ms. Vasiliki Goula and Ms. Golfo Gemistou.

It was a beautiful and constructive afternoon that offered knowledge and left strong emotions and a sweet aftertaste that will accompany the participants for a long time!

The event was honored with their presence by the representative of the Minister of Labour, Ms. Domnas Michailidou, Ms. Litsa Agalopoulou.

From the Municipality, the Deputy Mayors Mr. Dimitris Karydis and Mr. Georgios Vitsas, the Municipal Councilors Ms. Elina Verykaki and Mr. Theodoros Skordilis, the Community Councilors Mr. Christos Makris and Ms. Lina Athanasiou from the 2nd Community attended. Mr. Hatzikostas and Mrs. Iro Markozani attended from the 1st Community. From the politicians, Ms. Aikaterini Vourexakis and Mr. Stamatis Kontomanolis gave their “present”.

Organizations and Associations of the city attended: The President of Women of Mani, Ms. Giota Ritsou, the President of Women of Crete and the Aegean Islands, Ms. Anna Daskalaki, the Vice-President, Ms. Mary Kydonaki and Ms. Theodorakaki Gianna. Ms. Diana Mantzavinou attended from the Red Cross. The event was also honored with the presence of the representatives of the Soroptimist Group, more specifically Ms. Sofia Dimela, Ms. Kiki Notara and Ms. Magda Skurti. The Women’s Association of Peloponnese and the Ionian Islands was represented by Ms. Maro Agranioti and Ms. Marina Moschona and “Polymorfi” by Ms. Anastasia Lavouta.

Members of the Board of Directors of the Diabetics Association of Athens were also present.
