ELSTAT: 5.9% rise in the prices of construction materials for new buildings in March – Economic Post

A jump of 5.9% in the prices of construction materials for new buildings in March.

According to ELSTAT, the General Price Index of Materials for the Construction of New Residential Buildings, with a base year of 2021=100.0 and a reference month of March 2024, compared to the corresponding index of March 2023 showed an increase of 5.9%, against an increase of 8, 9% that occurred when comparing the corresponding indicators of the year 2023 with 2022, according to the data of the Hellenic Statistical Authority. The General Index during the month of March 2024, compared to the index of February 2024, showed an increase of 0.4%, against an increase of 0.5% recorded when comparing the corresponding months of the year 2023.

The average index for the twelve months April 2023 – March 2024, compared to the corresponding index for the twelve months April 2022 – March 2023, showed an increase of 6.6%, compared to an increase of 11.3% recorded when comparing the corresponding previous twelve months.

An increase in construction as well

Also, the General Price Index of New Residential Construction Project Categories for the 1st quarter of 2024, compared to the corresponding index of the 1st quarter of 2023, showed a 3.0% increase, compared to a 5.6% increase noted when comparing the corresponding indicators of the year 2023 with 2022.

The General Index during the first quarter of 2024, compared to the index of the fourth quarter of 2023, showed an increase of 0.8%, against an increase of 0.7% that was noted during the corresponding comparison of the indicators of the year 2023 with 2022.

The average index for the twelve months April 2023 – March 2024, compared to the corresponding index for the twelve months April 2022 – March 2023, showed an increase of 3.4%, against an increase of 6.8% recorded during the corresponding previous twelve months.
