Rallia Christidou, Member of Parliament for the 2nd 3rd South Sector of Athens SYRIZA – PS during her speech in the Plenary for the debate on the bill “Arrangements for dealing with the multi-level effects of climate change in the sectors of: a) water management, b) management and forest protection, c) urban resilience and politics, d) the fight against arbitrary construction, e) energy security”, among others, he emphasized that:

– the government is proposing today to the plenary session of the Parliament a comprehensive bill for the complete privatization of common natural resources, 7 months after the Thessaly disaster.

– The government grants the management, protection and use of the waters to private individuals, while transferring the water management of Thessaly to the same anonymous company and in derogation of any provision.

– The bill is unconstitutional. The jurisprudence of the STE is clear “the transformation of the public enterprise into a private one, which operates with a view to profit, makes uncertain the continuity of the provision of affordable public utility services” it says indicatively.

– They transfer the responsibility of anti-flood protection to EYATH and EYDAP with uncertain results since it is not certain that they can respond and they will probably need to assign new contracts. .

-Instead of strengthening the forestry service so that in cooperation with the forestry cooperatives it manages the forests, here too they transfer the management to private individuals, without the involvement of the local community and without strict criteria in terms of fire protection.

– Today they are talking about RES, essentially serving the contractors who will install RES while they should be investing in the development of energy communities to reduce the cost of energy needs, giving access to free space in the network and targeted funding.

– The government is currently selling off the country’s natural wealth and public property. But he also does something even more painful, he condemns an entire region to annihilation, Thessaly.
