Continuation of the dynamic presence of Greek art in Paris as the recent Greek Sale auction of Bonhams in collaboration with Art Expertise saw high prices after intense competition that lasted over four hours.
Moralis tops the auction
The top work at Bonhams’ Greek Sale was “Erotiko” by Yiannis Moralis for €560,000.
This is followed by “The Marshal of the Peloponnese Theodoros Kolokotronis” by Theophilos Hatzimichael with €165,000, “Alexander the Great” by Andy Warhol reaching €153,000, “Poet and Peasant” by Nikos Engonopoulos with €102,000, and “Portrait of a Young Man” by Giannis Tsarouchi that reached € 83,000.
Works by Georgios Iakovides, Spyros Vassiliou, Michalis Oikonomou and Kostas Tsoklis also achieved great performances.
As the director of Art Expertise Terpsichori Angelopoulou pointed out, “We are very pleased that great and historical works have found buyers and joined new collections of Greek and international art.
About 50% of the works sold reached or exceeded the highest estimate, which confirms the new dynamics that the institution of Greek Sales has developed in recent years”.
During the auction, 99% (by value) 70% of the projects (by lot) were sold with a turnover of 3,000,000 euros.
