Today Thursday 25/04/2024 is a day of celebration for Achaia and Patras, as it welcomes the Olympic Flame. Rio-Antirrio Bridge, University, Municipality of Patreon and “Kostis Palamas” Shelter have prepared a program of events for the brilliant reception.
AT THE BRIDGE
The Rio-Antirio Bridge celebrates its 20th anniversary by welcoming the Olympic Flame for the “Paris 2024” Torch Relay. The concessionaire company (member of the VINCI Highways Network) has announced the program of the Reception Ceremony, which will be broadcast live on the website (www.gefyra.gr). For those who wish, they can also watch from the western sidewalk of the Bridge (direction Antirrio-Rio).
The program is as follows:
14:50 Olympic Flame Arrival,
14:53-14:57 Torchlight procession to the Ceremony site for reception (1st Torchbearer: Bridge Worker-2nd: Panagiotis Giannakis 14:57-
15:20 Welcome ceremony (no parking), Touching of the Altar by Panagiotis Giannakis, Olympic Anthem – Raising of the Olympic Flag, National Anthem of France – Raising of the French Flag, National Anthem of Greece – Raising of the Greek Flag. The national anthems will be performed by the tenor Gina Foteinopoulou and the Choir of Kotroni Schools, accompanied by Zizi Korkontzelou on the piano. Torch Touch-Flame Departure.
15:20–15:47 Olympic Torch Relay in the direction of Patras (4th Torch Relay from the Nafpaktia-Dorida Disabled People’s Association “Alkyoni”).
AT THE TOWN HALL
The Municipality of Patreon will welcome the Olympic Flame in a special event, at 4 p.m. in old Arsakeion. The route will follow the path of: Agia Sophia and Corinth, Konstantinoupoleos, Maizonos and after the event, Maizonos to Georgiou Square. The Flame will be carried by the Torchbearers: Evangelos Gouzouasis (disabled athletics), Sotirios Michopoulos (tae kwon do), Fotini Plea (boxing), Christodoulos Kolombos (water polo), Nora Drakou (Swimming), Nikos Argyropoulos (Classical Sports). The Olympic Flame will depart with Nora Drakou’s Torch Relay. As part of the event, the percussion ensemble of the Municipal Conservatory of Patras will perform.
PALAMA ROOF
Subsequently will honorably stand in the house where the creator of the Olympic Anthem, Kostis Palamas, was born. A small honors ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m., on Corinthou Street 241, from the “Kostis Palamas” House of Letters. KAINO-TOPIA also supports the initiative. The event will be accompanied by the “Polyphonic Choir of Patras” under the direction of its Artistic Director Mo Stavros Solomos. Important here is the contribution of the renowned mezzo soprano Irini Karayannis in curating the program. The Greek High School of Patras will honor the event, with the presentation of performances and its participation in the event. The French Institute in Patras will participate with recitations, introducing us to the atmosphere of the Paris Olympic Games, with song and choreography by the students of the Institute. In addition, a member of the French National Assembly will welcome the event.
The program will be presented by Alexis Costalas, while the event will be honored with their presence by Olympians Irini Aindili, Makis Georgaras, Antigoni Drisbioti.
IN UNIVERSITY
For the first time the Olympic Flame will pass through an academic institution and this is the University of Patras who has prepared an extraordinary event for her reception which will be time 5.38 in the external area of the Rector’s officeUniversity of Patras (Administration Building).
The program of the event includes the arrival of a delegation of officials from the EOE and the Organizing Committee of the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games. The rendition in absolute order of: Olympic Anthem by the Cantelena Choir of Patras – National Anthem of France – National Anthem of Greece. Raising of flags: Olympic Games, France and Greece simultaneously with the playing of the respective Anthems, greeting from the rector Christos Burathe representative of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games “Paris 2024” Catherine Sanielonzconsul of France in Greece, of the EOE representative Petros Synadinos, member of EOE – representative of the Hellenic Archery Federation, leader of the “Paris 2024” Mission. As part of the cultural program, the student Dance Team of the University Gymnasium will be presented. On the occasion of the event, the University has decided on a series of traffic regulations on the Campus that will be in effect from 15:00 until 20:00.
OLYMPIC FLAME: TRAFFIC REGULATIONS
For the smooth passage of the Olympic Flame procession in Patras, there will be the following traffic arrangements:
Prohibition of vehicle parking from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m on the streets:
-St. Sophia from its confluence with Corinth to Constantinople.
-Constantinople from its junction with Ag. Sofia until October 28.
-Maison from its intersection with October 28th to Gounari.
-Corinth from its confluence with Gounari to Ag. Sophia.
-University from its intersection with Ag. Sofia to Ah. Commonwealth.
– Corinth from Ag. Nikolaou to Kolokotroni.
Suspension of vehicular traffic from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the streets:
– Corinth from its intersection with Ag. Nikolaou to Kolokotroni.
-Agiou Nikolaou from Karaiskaki to Corinth (descent).
-Kolokotroni from Kanakari to Corinth. Maizonos from October 28th to Zaimi (4pm-5pm).
– Polytechnic Heroes from Hippocrates to Pythagoras (3 pm – 9 pm). Odyssea Elytis from Polytechneiou to its intersection with Eupalinou (3 p.m. – 9 p.m.).
-The operation of the taxi stations in the upper and lower part of the square is suspended. Georgiou (3.30 p.m. – 5 p.m.).
