He will be in front of the investigator today Thursday at noon, to apologize to the now independent, former MP of the Spartans, Konstantinos Floros, who is accused of a felony after the attack inside the Parliament against the MP of the Hellenic Solution, Vassilis Grammenos.

The accused remains in custody since yesterday after the deadline he received to apologize for violence against a member of parliament during the exercise of his duties.

Mr. Grammenos has broken nasal bones, a sprained jaw, a traumatic ligament tear in his wrist and forearm, according to the medical release. Doctors recommended rest and a 10-day sick leave. However, Mr. Floros denies that he punched him.

The advocate of Mr. Floros, Vaso Pantazis, pointed out that before the incident there had been a “vulgar verbal attack” by Mr. Grammenos towards her client and for “justified indignation”, as “provided and defined in the criminal law”. At the same time, Mrs. Pantazi, expressing surprise at the criminal charge against Mr. Floros, spoke of “legal exaggeration” over an unfortunate personal incident.

What happened

The episode took place during the debate on the lifting of the immunity of Kyriakos Velopoulos.

In photos from the corridors of the Parliament, it appears that the Hellenic Solution MP has fallen to the ground and bystanders are rushing towards the two men to keep them at a distance.

According to what became known, the reason for the episode was the discussion in the Plenary Session of the Parliament of the lifting of the immunity of the president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, whose case concerned defamation through a false account on a social network submitted by an officer of the Navy.

Mr. Floros, whose father had brought the lawsuit against Mr. Velopoulos, had requested to take the floor in the Plenary, however the regulation did not allow it and he was not given it, reacting to the petition of the parliamentary representative of the Hellenic Solution, Constantinos Chitas, for carbine pre-election political expediency which, although it does not concern Mr. Velopoulos, requested the lifting of his immunity in order to appear before his natural judge.

According to information broadcast by ERT, in the Plenary there was a verbal confrontation between Mr. Floros and Mr. Grammenos. The same information states that Mr. Floros reacted by shouting to Mr. Chitas that “this will be decided by the judges”, Mr. Grammenos responded with heavy characterizations.

When the two men went out of the Plenary, Mr. Floros attacked him, grabbed him by the neck, punched him and threw him to the floor. It is noted that Mr. Grammenos, according to the same information, had filed a lawsuit against Mr. Floros’ father for defamation through the press and insult.

Severe condemnation

“Sympathies to the colleague who was attacked by a member of parliament. Unacceptable” emphasized the ND parliamentary representative, Thanos Plevris.

“We condemn the behavior that incites extreme positions and the bending of free thought and the ballots” said Dionysios-Charalambos Kalamatianos, MP of SYRIZA.

Panagiotis Doudonis, MP of PASOK – KINAL, condemned the incident saying: “Some have not understood where they are. This thuggish action is unacceptable, someone else is behind this event.”

“Fascism and the extreme right are not dealt with by legal means, but the Greek people will send them where they need to be,” said Thanasis Pafilis, KKE member of parliament.

“I never expected people in parliament to repeat acts that have to do with animal instincts. Those who want to behave like animals should go out into the jungle and behave like that” underlined the president of Hellenic Solution Kyriakos Velopoulos.

“We unequivocally condemn the behavior that took place in the parliament” said the MP of the New Left, Meropi Tzoufi.

The president of the “Spartans” Vassilis Stigas spoke of a very tragic and unacceptable incident. “We condemn it unequivocally. We condemn every form of violence wherever it comes from. Especially in this sacred space that we respect and love,” said Mr. Stigas and added: “We agree with Mr. Tasoula so that there are no such miserable incidents in here.”

Niki’s president, Dimitris Natsios, said: “We condemn the event, but when apples are sour, the apples are not to blame, the apples are to blame.”

“There is no place in parliament for hand-wringing, insults and settling accounts behaviors that do not in any way serve what the citizens expect the Parliament to form,” emphasized the president of Pleysis Eleftherias, Zoe Konstantopoulou.
