--

In Amman, Jordan, Cypriot athlete Andreas Arabis won the gold medal in the Wheelchair 1 category at the international table tennis games, held from 20 to 22 April 2024. The games, which took place under the auspices of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) , marked another triumph for the Cypriot delegation.

The event proved to be a true celebration of sportsmanship, with the Arab displaying outstanding performances in all events. Starting with a 3-2 win against Kuwait’s Ibrahim Hassan, the Arab continued unbeaten, beating Saudi Arabia’s Agram Fawaz 3-0, and finally defeated Alsalmi Rakan, also of Saudi Arabia, 3-1.

His excellent performance and winning the gold medal is not only a personal success for the Arab, but also an important success for Cypriot sports. The Arab’s consistency and dedication bodes well for further success in the near future, as the next big date is the pre-Paralympic tournament in Thailand from May 23 to 25, where the Arab will bid to qualify for the Paris Paralympics in 2024.

Cyprus continues to stand out at international sporting events, a testament to its growing sporting culture and the support it provides to its athletes.
