The mayor of Piraeus called it science fiction scenarios Yannis Moralis what reports say about the direct involvement of the Municipality of Piraeus with the ongoing investigation into the case of fan violence, after the arrest of 67 people allegedly related to the death of the policeman George Lyggeridis who lost his life from a flare outside the Melina Merkouri stadium, in Rentis.
The mayor of Piraeus in a post on his personal Facebook account points out that his path, both in the past when he was actively involved in football for 20 years, as well as in the last ten years as mayor, is absolutely crystal clear and widely known.
He also underlines that any attempt to link the persons judged by justice and their behavior with him, has nothing to do with the truth and manifests deliberate serving of expediency.
To the media reports that some of those arrested are municipal employees, Mr. Moralis replies that all recruitment procedures were carried out in accordance with the prescribed procedures, while emphasizing that no company, public or municipal, can know whether an employee is behaving legally or if he commits criminal acts, after leaving his job.

“In response to a journalist’s question about publications that directly implicate the Municipality of Piraeus with the ongoing investigation into a case of fan violence – and not only – I state the following:
“It is obvious that this is a science fiction scenario, the circulation of which was attempted by some in exactly the same way a few months ago. And then and today equally unsuccessfully. I therefore clearly underline the following:
Fixed-term contract employees are hired in the municipalities based on the applicable law and the procedure prescribed by it. And in the cases mentioned in the publications, absolutely all the prescribed procedures were followed and despite the fact that this is known to the editors of the publications, it is deliberately ignored.
It is absolutely self-evident for everyone that no private company and much more no public or municipal authority can know how any employee behaves after leaving his job or service. That is, if he behaves legally or if he commits criminal acts.
To the plain insinuation against my person, and the evident attempt to connect me with any aspect of this affair, the clearest answer is furnished by my consistently observed and publicly known conduct.
My path both in the past when I was actively involved in football for 20 years, as well as in the last ten years as the Mayor of Piraeus is absolutely crystal clear and widely known.
