Olympic flame… with all the honors (video, photo report)

Imposing in the Lower Square of Corfu, the Olympic Flame was lit on the altar that was waiting to welcome it, by the hand of the Corfu Olympian Spyros Ganniotis who led the march to the applause of the crowd that had gathered for the ceremony.

The welcoming ceremony of the flame was completed in Spianada after a march along the route of the New Fortress moat, St. Desyllas and G. Aspiotis, in front of the Academy, on the perimeter of the Square to end up at the point of the ceremony, where the Olympic Anthem and the national anthems of Greece and France were played by a mixed formation of the philharmonics of the city of Corfu (Palaia, Mantzaros and Kapodistriae) and of “Spyros Samaras” of Ano Korakiana.
Then followed the greetings of the Mayor of Central Corfu Stefanos Poulimenos, the representative of the French Embassy and the head of the National Torch Relay Committee Sakis Vassiliadis.
Along its route, the flame was carried by Olympic medalists and distinguished athletes (the holder of the 2,000 meters world record for teenagers Arsenis Tsiminos, the distinguished European disabled swimmer Anastasia Mesimeri, the Greek ice swimming champion Babis Theodosis, and our Olympic rhythmic gymnasts Maria Georgatou and in softball Ioanna Bouziou.
