Moralis on the Lyggeridis murder: I have no relationship with those judged by the Justice

The mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, characterizes the reports linking him to the investigation into the case of fan violence, related to the murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, as science fiction scenarios, adding that it has nothing to do with the persons judged by the Justice.

Responding to a journalist’s question, Mr. Moralis points out that “”It is obvious that this is a science fiction scenario, the circulation of which was attempted by some in exactly the same way a few months ago”.

As he explains, “fixed-term contract employees are hired in the municipalities based on the applicable law and the procedure provided for by it. And in the cases mentioned in the publications, absolutely all the prescribed procedures were followed and despite the fact that it is known to the editors of the publications, it is deliberately ignored”.

At the same time, says Mr. Moralis, it is absolutely self-evident that no private company, nor public or municipal authority “can know how any employee behaves after leaving his job or service. That is, if he behaves legally or if he commits criminal acts”.

Responding to the insinuations on his person and the attempt to connect him to any aspect of the case, the mayor of Piraeus states that “the clearest answer is provided by my consistently observed and publicly known behavior”.

“My path both in the past when I was actively involved in football for 20 years, as well as in the last ten years as the Mayor of Piraeus is absolutely crystal clear and widely known. A path to light.

Any attempt to connect the persons judged by justice and their behavior with me has nothing to do with the truth and manifests a willful serving of expediency,” he concludes.
